All Council Meeting Highlights – March 29

March 30, 2026

What a great day of connection, learning, and a little friendly competition!

We were proud to bring together 33 elected representatives from across the South West Region, including regional leadership and community council members from all four councils. These gatherings are such an important opportunity to strengthen relationships, share knowledge, and build momentum together.

A special thank you to Regional Councillor Mitch Case (Huron-Superior Regional Métis Community) for joining us and delivering two meaningful presentations. Mitch shared his personal story alongside community perspectives, while exploring Métis origins, uniqueness, and modern identity. We’re grateful for his time, generosity, and the knowledge he shared to help deepen our collective understanding.

The day was full of engaging discussions, hands-on learning (including finger weaving!), and of course—some fun competition. Our Kahoot challenge tested knowledge on Métis beading, sash, and capote traditions, with some impressive results:

🥇 Jess Notwell (TBWMC Treasurer)

🥈 Stephanie Flagg (NRMC Secretary)

🥉 Tom Dusome (CWMC Treasurer)

Between great conversations and a shared meal, the day truly reflected what it means to come together as a region.

These meetings are just one of the ways we are creating space for collaboration, learning, and connection across our councils, and we’re always looking to grow that circle.

👉 If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is a great time. There are currently council vacancies with NRMC and GRMC, and many opportunities to volunteer at upcoming events and initiatives (including some upcoming tree planting activities across the region 🌱). Let’s keep building something strong—together.
