Land Acknowledgement
The Grand River Métis Council acknowledges that our office location is on the Haldimand Tract, traditionally promised to the Six Nations in 1784, and extending six miles on either side of the Grand River to Lake Erie. We acknowledge that this land has been cared for by Neutral, Anishinaabe, Mississauga of the Credit and Haudenosaunee peoples since time immemorial, continuing as long as the grass grows, as long as the sun shines and as long as the river flows.
The accompanying map (below) is intended as an internal tool to delineate the service area of the Grand River Métis Council for MNO citizens, without asserting any claims on land or harvesting rights.
Our Misson
To promote and preserve the Métis way of life.
To look to our elders, to attain and maintain our Métis traditions, culture, spirituality and the respect of Mother Earth.
To ensure future generations carry on this vision, we are committed to educating our Youth.
Council Introduction
The Grand River Métis Council (GRMC) has been serving the Métis community since October 29, 2007, when the Charter was signed and the council was established and we continue to serve the citizens within our council boundaries.
GRMC is made up of 10 Council Members, all volunteer positions. Some have served on council for many terms and for others this is the first, no matter the length they are all dedicated to supporting Metis history, and continuing to share and instill traditions and knowledge to all members of the community.
The GRMC is committed to fostering connection, culture, and community through events, initiatives, and partnerships. From family gatherings and youth activities to seasonal celebrations and cultural initiatives, the Council works to create welcoming spaces where Métis citizens can come together, share knowledge, and build lasting relationships.
With a strong foundation of respect, collaboration, and community pride, the Grand River Métis Council continues to grow alongside its citizens, guided by their voices and needs.
