The South West Regional Logo is Here!

August 27, 2026

The South West Region has adopted a new logo, created by a Métis designer (Aspire Métis Design Services), and inspired by ideas shared by citizens during our 2025 regional logo contest.

The water flowing through the logo forms the shape of a Métis sash, representing the lakes, rivers, and waterways that have connected Métis families, communities, and trade routes throughout our region for generations.

The partial flower pays tribute to the Métis as the “Flower Beadwork People,” celebrating the artistry, creativity, and cultural traditions that continue to flourish within our communities today.

Beneath the flower, the roots symbolize our deep and enduring connection to our ancestral lands. They remind us that while we continue to grow and adapt, we remain firmly grounded in the history, relationships, and responsibilities that have shaped our Nation.

Above the water, the rising sun reflects the breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the Great Lakes and waterways that define much of our region. It also represents hope, renewal, and the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue building the future together.

At the centre rests the Métis Infinity Symbol, representing the enduring spirit of the Métis Nation—our resilience, our continued existence, and our ongoing pursuit of recognition and self-determination.

The logo also incorporates the six colours of our South West Regional Sash, each reflecting an important part of our region’s identity:

  • Blue represents the lakes, rivers, and waterways that connect our communities
  • Silver represents Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent and the manufacturing traditions that helped build our communities.
  • Purple represents the Niagara Region Métis Council and its vineyards and grape harvest.
  • Gold represents the agricultural lands of the Grand River Métis Council area.
  • Green represents Clear Waters Métis Council the Carolinian forests found throughout southwestern Ontario.
  • Red represents the blood of our ancestors and the enduring connections that unite Métis people across our region, and has been adopted by the Thames Bluewater Métis Council.

Together, these elements tell a story of a region connected by land, water, history, culture, and kinship.

This logo is more than a visual identity. It represents where we have come from, who we are today, and the future we are building together.

As we continue our journey toward self-government, we hope this new logo will foster a stronger sense of regional identity while celebrating the unique contributions our communities make to the Métis Nation of Ontario.

We look forward to sharing this symbol proudly across our region for years to come.

Why Regional Identity Matters

While each of our Community Councils has its own unique history, traditions, and identity, together we are stronger. The South West Region provides opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, youth engagement, cultural celebration, and regional advocacy. This new identity is not intended to replace our local communities. It is meant to celebrate the connections between them and strengthen our collective voice within the Métis Nation of Ontario.

South West Region Councils

The South West Region includes four Métis community councils serving citizens across southwestern Ontario. Visit each council’s page to learn more about local programs, events, and leadership.
